Fine Art Portraits New Zealand | In December 2015 I decided to leave my normal life behind for a bit and travel to one of the most stunning and diverse countries on this planet: New Zealand. Being burnt out from an exhausting wedding season and a year full of changes and challenges I had no desire to turn my memories into photographs. I simply wanted to travel and take it all in with my eyes and my heart.
But when I saw pictures of Yhana, a local from Hamilton, my photography instincts came to life again. The urge to photograph her was so strong that I changed my itinerary. I threw my plans overboard and even made sure that not even bad weather could keep us from collaborating.
On a rainy day we went to Raglan, a surfers town graced with long, wild beaches made of black volcanic sand and simply started shooting. There was no plan, no desired outcome – just the two of us and the wind and the rain. The outcome is something that is raw, honest, and created from the heart.
Yhana is one of the most stunning models I’ve ever worked with! Her Maori heritage mixed with her blond hair and the most wonderful olive skin color made me fall in love with her immediately. I could have kept shooting and shooting and shooting. It was simply perfect.
I’m beyond honoured and excited that this shoot was featured on the American blog Lemonade & Lenses. Click here to read all about it or here and here to see the other times I have been featured there.
